Mohamed Salah scored twice on his first league start to lead Trabzonspor past Istanbul Basaksehir 2-1 in the Turkish Super Lig on August 23. The victory gives the Black Sea club their first win of the domestic league season after opening the campaign with a draw.

Salah opened the scoring in the eighth minute, capitalising on a mistake from Basaksehir goalkeeper Muhammed Sengezer, who failed to hold onto the ball. Eldor Shomurodov brought Basaksehir level from the penalty spot in the 19th minute, but Salah restored Trabzonspor‘s lead three minutes into the second half after bursting down the right flank, exchanging passes with Ernest Muci, and slotting into the far corner.
The 34-year-old winger, who joined Trabzonspor on a free transfer following a nine-year stint at Liverpool, nearly added to his tally during late drama. A stoppage-time finish was chalked off for a foul during the build-up, while another effort from long range into an empty net was ruled out for offside after Sengezer went up-field for a late corner.
Trabzonspor turn their focus to Thursday’s Europa League playoff second leg against Ferencvaros in Hungary, where they must overturn a 1-0 deficit following a first-leg defeat at home.
