Nepal-Tibet Floods Leave 633 Dead and Nearly 3,000 Missing
At least 633 people are confirmed dead and 2,980 remain missing following catastrophic flash floods and mudslides along the Nepal-Tibet border. International rescue teams and local disaster agencies are scrambling to locate hundreds of foreign tourists and workers trapped in remote mountain terrain.
Armed Police Deploy Sniffer Dogs as Foreign Nationals Add to Toll
Armed Police Force officials deployed sniffer dogs to search for survivors in Devighat, Nuwakot district, where disaster figures released Saturday confirmed the overall missing count includes 90 Americans, 100 Chinese nationals, and 98 Indians. Nepal‘s disaster agency increased the total missing on its side of the border to 2,426, while China’s Xinhua news agency reported 554 missing on the Chinese side alongside seven confirmed deaths.
Foreign ministries and tourism boards worldwide confirmed hundreds of other citizens remain unaccounted for, including 62 Ukrainians, 41 Australians, 33 Britons, 29 Latvians, 25 Canadians, nine South Koreans, nine Singaporeans, nine Russians, eight Germans, six South Africans, five Japanese, five New Zealanders, and four French nationals.
