UAE Offers Relief to Stranded Travellers with Extended Grace Period
The UAE has extended a 30-day grace period until July 9, 2026, allowing stranded travellers to avoid overstay penalties by either departing the country or regularising their visa status.
Who It Affects
This extension applies to travellers who were previously exempted from overstay penalties due to regional travel disruptions. Eligible visitors include those who were unable to travel as planned due to flight or border disruptions and were granted temporary relief from overstay enforcement. What You Need To Do
To avoid overstay penalties, affected travellers must take one of the following steps before the July 9, 2026 deadline:- Depart the UAE through the designated exit points.
- Regularise their immigration status through the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP) channels, such as changing visa status or obtaining a new lawful stay basis where permitted.
Fine Schedule Table
| Overstay Duration | Daily Fine |
|---|---|
| First day | AED 200 |
| Second to tenth day | AED 100 |
Note: The exact fine schedule may vary depending on individual circumstances, and travellers should confirm the applicable fines with the ICP or relevant authorities.
