Roads and Transport Authority (RTA)

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is Dubai’s government agency responsible for developing and managing the emirate’s transportation infrastructure. Established in 2005, it oversees roads, public transport systems, maritime transport, and licensing services.

RTA manages the Dubai Metro, tram, buses, taxis, and water transport systems, ensuring seamless mobility across the city. It also regulates traffic laws, vehicle registration, and driver licensing. With smart city ambitions, RTA has integrated AI-driven traffic management, autonomous vehicle trials, and smart ticketing systems into its operations.

Flagship projects include the Dubai Metro Red and Green Lines, the expansion of cycling tracks, and preparations for futuristic initiatives like flying taxis and hyperloop systems. The RTA is also central to Dubai’s 2030 Autonomous Transport Strategy, which aims to make 25% of trips driverless.

Beyond infrastructure, RTA contributes to sustainability through green mobility, electric buses, and solar-powered transport solutions, reinforcing Dubai’s position as a global model for smart mobility.
