Summer Rain Hits UAE: NCM Forecasts Week-Long Showers
The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) has issued a forecast for week-long summer rain across eastern, southern, and internal regions of the UAE, starting from August 4, 2026. According to the NCM, convective clouds are expected to develop over these areas, associated with rainfall of varying intensity. Despite the afternoon showers, temperatures will remain high, with coastal and island areas expected to record highs of 42°C to 47°C, while internal areas will range between 45°C and 50°C.
High temperatures are expected across the board, with major cities like Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, and Sharjah seeing highs of 46°C, while Dubai, Umm Al Quwain, and Ras Al Khaimah will peak at 45°C. Mountainous regions will be relatively cooler, with temperatures between 33°C and 39°C. The NCM attributes the summer rain to the northward movement of the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ), coupled with the extension of an upper-level trough from the east, drawing moisture from the Sea of Oman.
The daily afternoon showers will likely impact daily routines, particularly for those living in eastern, southern, and internal areas of the UAE. Residents can expect partly cloudy weather, with a strong chance of rainfall once convective clouds form. Light to moderate winds will average speeds of 10 to 25km/h, reaching 35km/h in coastal areas. Sea conditions will be slight, with gentle waves rising to a maximum of two feet on-shore and three feet off-shore.
