Park at Home: How Dubai and Abu Dhabi Smart Impound Works
An impoundment penalty does not always mean your car goes to a police yard. In Dubai and Abu Dhabi, drivers can apply for smart impound, which lets them keep the vehicle at a private location they choose while a tracking device makes sure it stays put for the whole penalty period.
Dubai Smart Impound
Dubai Police ask you to pay the outstanding traffic fines on the vehicle first. The service costs AED 420, made up of a Dh400 service fee and Dh20 in knowledge and innovation fees. If you ask for more time, Dh100 is charged for each added month.
Once your application is approved, you book a visit to the traffic department, where technicians fit a GPS tracker. If the car is moved from the approved location, the system alerts Dubai Police. When the penalty ends, the device is removed at the traffic department.
Abu Dhabi Smart Impound
Abu Dhabi Police charge a flat Dh15 per day, and the service covers light vehicles, heavy vehicles, trucks and buses involved in an offence that carries an impoundment penalty. Apply through the TAMM platform or at a customer service centre. The owner, or a representative with an official power of attorney, must attend in person with an Emirates ID to sign a declaration accepting the conditions. Staff then fit the tracking device, and any breach of the conditions sends an alert to the police monitoring room. See our Abu Dhabi smart impound guide for the full application steps.
Dubai vs Abu Dhabi at a Glance
| Dubai | Abu Dhabi | |
|---|---|---|
| Fee | AED 420 flat, plus Dh100 for each extra month | Dh15 per day |

Over a long impound period, Abu Dhabi’s daily charge can exceed Dubai’s flat fee, so work out the total for your penalty before you apply.
