Airspace Ban Follows Terminated Aviation Agreements and Escalating Regional Tensions
The Algerian Foreign Ministry summoned the Emirati ambassador following repeated disputes over domestic interference, formalizing a complete diplomatic break. Alongside the embassy closure, the government advanced procedures to terminate an air services agreement originally signed in Abu Dhabi on May 13, 2013.
This escalation follows a deteriorating relationship between the two Organisation of Islamic Cooperation members that saw Algiers initiate steps to scrap the bilateral aviation accord in February 2026.
