Dh400 Pedestrian Fine Enforced as Dubai Police Launch Traffic Campaign
Pedestrians stepping onto Dubai roadways outside marked crossing points face an immediate Dh400 fine following an enforcement reminder issued on October 23, 2026. The measure applies to all foot traffic across the emirate under Article 89 of the Federal Traffic Law, aiming to curb run-over incidents by compelling both pedestrians and motorists to obey street signals.
Traffic Authorities Enforce Article 89 to Reduce Pedestrian Accidents
Article 89 of the Federal Traffic Law penalizes pedestrians Dh400 for ignoring pedestrian traffic signals or crossing roads at undesignated locations. Brigadier Al Suwaidi, Director of the General Department of Police Stations, confirmed that the penalty reminder forms part of a broader awareness campaign designed to lower accident rates and encourage responsible road behavior.
As part of this outreach, Dubai Police safety teams have engaged approximately 79,000 workers from various companies across industrial and residential zones, including Al Quoz, Jebel Ali, Dubai Investment Park, and Al Muhaisnah. Educational sessions and instructional materials were delivered directly in the workers’ native languages to ensure clear understanding of crossing rules. Major General Saif Al Mazrouei, Director of the General Department of Traffic, noted that focusing on worker demographics remains critical because they represent a significant portion of local pedestrians, cyclists, and e-scooter riders.
Parallel directives target drivers, reminding motorists to stay alert, drop their speed, and yield the right of way to pedestrians at all marked crosswalks, particularly inside high-density residential neighborhoods.
The enforcement drive expands upon prior public safety operations conducted across the UAE, including similar jaywalking warnings and pedestrian safety campaigns recently deployed by Abu Dhabi Police.
