Mashreq NEO On Arrival: A Digital Account for UAE Visitors
Mashreq’s NEO On Arrival account lets international travellers, tourists and visitors set up a UAE bank account through the Mashreq NEO app. Mashreq is regulated by the Central Bank of the UAE, so the account sits inside the regulated banking system.
How It Works
- Download the Mashreq NEO app.
- Complete the passport-based electronic identity check (eKYC).
- Activate your virtual account, which Mashreq says takes minutes.
- Use the digital card that is issued for immediate use.
What You Get
- Instant access to a UAE bank account on arrival.
- Local transactions and secure digital payments.
- A digital card, so you can pay without carrying cash or relying on a foreign card.
Limits, Fees and Funding
Mashreq’s key facts statement for the account sets out the main terms:
- Minimum balance: none required. The account does not earn interest.
- Daily limits: up to AED 5,000 in cash withdrawals (maximum five transactions) and up to AED 5,000 in purchases (maximum five transactions) on the digital debit card.
- ATM withdrawals: four a month are free at Mashreq ATMs in the UAE, with charges from the fifth.
- Card: an AED digital debit card with no physical version. Add it to Apple Pay or Google Wallet before using it in shops in the UAE.
- Funding: you can receive transfers from your own account in your home country. You cannot add international beneficiaries or send money abroad from this account.
How Long the Account Lasts
The account is offered only for the length of your stay. You cannot open it if your visa has fewer than seven days left. Closure begins seven days after the earliest of 180 days from opening, your visa expiry date at opening, your recorded exit from the UAE, or a change from visitor to resident status. A further seven-day grace period lets you clear the balance.
What Happens to Leftover Money
If less than AED 50 remains after the grace period, it is transferred to Emirates Nature-WWF, based on the consent you give when you sign up. If more than AED 50 remains, the account is frozen. To claim it, email onarrival@mashreq.com with your home-country bank details and your last three months of statements. Processing can take up to seven business days, so spend or move your balance before you leave.
What to Check Before You Sign Up
Mashreq’s key facts statement does not state the monthly service charge or the fee for the fifth ATM withdrawal onwards, so read the schedule of charges in the app before you fund the account. The statement does not address card use outside the UAE, and the card is AED only, so plan to carry another payment method abroad.
Mashreq is not the only choice. ADCB’s tourist account has published rules on age, visas, fees and closure, which you can compare in the UAE tourist bank account guide or read in full under Tourist Identity.
