Credit Card Trail Exposes Wanted Convict Disguised as Woman for 8 Years
Turkish police raided a residence in Istanbul‘s Kadıköy district to arrest Tuğrul Bar, a convict who evaded a prison sentence for eight years by living disguised as a woman and carrying his sister’s identity card. Law enforcement agencies and municipal security units maintained active warrants for the suspect, who had been on the run since 2018 following convictions in three separate cases involving theft and the impersonation of public officials.
Financial Surveillance Triggers Kadıköy Raid
Investigators uncovered the suspect’s location by monitoring financial transactions. Detectives flagged routine purchases made in Istanbul using credit cards registered to Bar’s sister at a time when government entry and exit records confirmed she was outside Turkey. The discrepancy prompted surveillance on the Kadıköy premises, culminating in a police entry where officers detained an individual dressed in women’s clothing.
Bar had systematically altered his hairstyle, facial appearance, and daily attire since his 2018 conviction, allowing him to pass routine street checks and security checkpoints without triggering official alerts. A mandatory fingerprint check conducted at the police station formally verified his identity.
Following the confirmation, authorities transferred Bar directly to prison to serve his outstanding sentence. Prosecutors simultaneously initiated a new criminal investigation into allegations of identity impersonation and the falsification or misuse of official documents, exposing the convict to further judicial penalties.
