Stop AI Fraud and Online Scams With Advice From Dubai Police
Artificial intelligence scams are making digital fraud far harder to spot, with cybercriminals now cloning human voices and generating fake images to spoof residents, legitimate businesses, and government institutions. To counter these evolving tactics during Cybersecurity Awareness Month, Dubai Police, the Ministry of Interior, and the Dubai Electronic Security Centre are rolling out practical advice to ensure online safety.
The official guidance forms part of the national “Safe UAE Through Your Digital Awareness” campaign, which launched on September 30. The joint initiative aims to help internet users across the country identify digital threats early and prevent financial loss or identity theft.
Guarding Against AI Impersonation and Gaming Scams
Scammers are increasingly leveraging AI tools to impersonate trusted authority figures, family members, or corporate entities. Their goal is straightforward: build instant trust to siphon off money or extract private credentials. The advisory instructs residents to adopt a simple three-step reaction whenever an unexpected call, voice note, or message asks for sensitive data or direct transfers: stop, verify, and act. Always verify the sender’s true identity through an official, independent contact method before taking any action.
Online gaming platforms are another primary vector highlighted by authorities. While gaming networks allow players to connect globally, not every user acts in good faith. Fraudulent accounts routinely target players to steal personal details or gain unauthorized access to accounts and linked payment methods.
Residents looking to build their digital safety skills can also test their knowledge through official interactive initiatives. Dubai Police launched the Cyber Guardian challenge on its eCrime Hub, where participants can hunt for 10 hidden online threats. Additionally, the broader “Don’t Get Played” awareness campaign offers rewards up to Dh75,000 to encourage the public to learn practical fraud detection skills.
If you suspect digital fraud, encounter impersonation attempts, or detect malicious activity online, report the incident immediately through the Dubai Police eCrime Hub.
