Eight-game winless run continues as Carrick keeps Manchester United job
Michael Carrick remained in charge of Manchester United on Tuesday, taking squad training at Carrington following high-level club talks in the wake of Sunday’s 3-0 home defeat against Bournemouth. The decision keeps the 45-year-old manager in place ahead of Saturday’s trip to fifth-placed Chelsea, granting football executives and playing staff an immediate opportunity to arrest an eight-match winless run in all competitions that has left United in 16th place, one point above the Premier League relegation zone.
United executives opt for stability before testing run against Chelsea and AS Roma
Carrington training proceeded as normal on Tuesday morning, with senior leadership including part-owner Jim Ratcliffe, chief executive officer Omar Berrada, and director of football Jason Wilcox backing Carrick to lead preparations for upcoming fixtures against Chelsea, AS Roma, Aston Villa, and Liverpool. Carrick has carried full responsibility for recent form, which includes dropping captain Bruno Fernandes to the bench after the midfielder publicly criticized team tactics following a 4-1 Champions League defeat at Como.
Carrick previously engineered a turn in United’s fortunes after replacing Ruben Amorim in January to secure a third-place league finish, though the team has lacked a top-flight victory since defeating Ipswich Town on August 30.
