CBUAE interest rate stays at 3.9% after US Fed decision
The Central Bank of the UAE has kept its base rate on overnight deposit facilities unchanged at 3.9%, matching a policy hold by the US Federal Reserve. Local financial institutions and corporate borrowers face steady monetary conditions as central banks navigate persistent inflation and energy price shifts in global markets.
Short-term liquidity borrowing stays anchored above the baseline
The Central Bank of the UAE confirmed that the interest rate applicable to borrowing short-term liquidity from the institution remains maintained at 50 basis points above the base rate for all standing credit facilities.
The base rate itself is anchored to the US Federal Reserve’s interest on reserve balances, serving as a primary indicator for the general stance of monetary policy. It also provides an effective floor for overnight money market interest rates across the UAE.
The decision to hold rates steady mirrors the US Federal Reserve’s move to leave interest rates untouched. Monetary authorities opted against rate cuts despite persistently high inflation and a spike in energy prices in the world’s largest economy, prompting a corresponding stance from regional regulators.
