KHDA’s 24-Hour Notice Inspections: What Changes for Dubai Private Schools

From the 2026-27 academic year, the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) is giving Dubai private schools no more than 24 hours’ notice before a quality assurance team arrives. The previous notice was reported to be five working days. KHDA says the aim is to reflect the everyday reality of school life, with feedback based on authentic evidence rather than preparation.

Two Types of Visit

KHDA picks each school’s visit type through a data-driven process that draws on its own data, school submissions, achievement data and self-evaluations. Schools completing their third year of operation automatically get a full inspection, while schools in their first or second year are not fully inspected.

What It Means for Parents

Because monitoring visits do not change a rating, you will see a mix of newly rated schools and schools whose published ratings date from earlier inspections. Check the date of the report as well as the rating on KHDA’s website. Inspections were paused before this year, and KHDA says the framework itself has not changed.

What Inspectors Will Look At

Reports say inspectors will look at what schools did during the pause and whether it led to measurable gains for students, and that schools in the Excel Anywhere programme will have their progress reviewed. Inclusion stays part of the inspection.

What Schools Should Do

With one day’s notice, schools need safeguarding records, teaching standards and leadership documents ready all year, rather than preparing for a scheduled window. Parents can ask the school how it keeps these up to date.
