KG1 Dental Screenings Roll Out Across UAE Public Schools
📣 ARTICLE HEADLINE
Public school classrooms across Dubai and the Northern Emirates are introducing a new health step for their youngest learners this term. The Ministry of Health and Prevention (Mohap), working alongside the Ministry of Education and Emirates Health Services (EHS), has launched a nationwide oral and dental health screening project focused on Kindergarten 1 (KG1) students.
Where Families Can Access Early Dental Screenings
Parents of public school KG1 students can complete the required checks at EHS-run government health centres or private healthcare facilities. Clinics will screen children for tooth decay, gum disease, and underlying conditions before they step into primary school classrooms, establishing routine care long before dental pain or symptoms develop.
Tareq Al Hashimi, Assistant Undersecretary for the School Operations Sector in Dubai and the Northern Emirates at the Ministry of Education, highlighted that early physical wellbeing directly impacts classroom participation. Dr Hussain Al Rand, assistant undersecretary for the Public Health Sector at Mohap, stressed that starting preventive checks during preschool instills daily oral hygiene habits that stick for life. To maintain care beyond the initial checkup, Dr Essam Al Zarooni, executive director of the Medical Services Sector at EHS, confirmed that public health centres will connect initial screening findings directly with follow-up medical support and family health guidance.
The screening program aligns with the World Health Organisation’s 2023, 2030 oral health strategy focusing on early detection for young children.
